There’s something about simplicity that never gets old and never gets tiresome. When a direct and simple thing is well done, that’s it. Our feature project this month is a great example of a keep it simple strategy executed to perfection.
Concrete paving with a simple but stylish S-curve, flanked by a smooth gravel parking area, serve as the approach to this residence. True to the simple design strategy, large natural stone slabs replace the more common concrete steps up to the basic but inviting porch.
The weathered post and beam supports for the porch overhang couldn’t be more fitting for this setting and structure. Two unique, unmatched rockers make this a great place to take in the world.
Cladding on this single-story home is shared between muted, mid-green vertically slatted wood on top and Fusion Stone Great Lakes in Raven colour below. This combination sustains the simple, rustic theme and gives this exterior a solid and inviting character. The Fusion Stone Raven colour was well chosen as it matches well with both the roof and gravel surface while providing a distinct contrast to the green wood above.
All in all, this is a great object lesson in the power of simplicity. When thoughtfully conceived and executed less is definitely more.
Don’t forget, Fusion Stone is available in three distinct profiles and comes in multiple colours. It is maintenance-free, guaranteed for life, and available at over 1,500 locations across Canada. Ask your building supply retailer about Fusion Stone and visit fusionstone.ca.
Watch for our next feature project in November.
