Do You Fit the DIY Profile?

Whether you’re a first time homeowner or a seasoned veteran, there is probably a long list of projects you’d like to tackle in and around your home. The question for many homeowners is should I hire a professional or do it myself? If you are motivated, patient, able to follow instructions, willing to learn new skills and have time to commit to the project then you may want to try to do it yourself (DIY).

DIY projects are cost effective and many home owners enjoy the challenge and subsequent reward of learning new skills and seeing their own work come to fruition. If you have never tackled a DIY project before then start with a small job to gain some confidence and know-how before tackling something major.

Do you have the time?

If your free time is at a premium and you don’t enjoy doing home improvements then a DIY project is probably not right for you. It’s important to have the time to complete a project properly and the motivation to want to spend your free time doing it. If this isn’t the case then no matter how small or easy the project is you should consider hiring a professional.

Do you have the knowledge and skills?

Between Pinterest, Google and YouTube you can find instructions for just about any DIY project. Do some research before you get started to see what skills are needed. DIY projects that use materials like stone veneer are designed for easy installation by handy homeowners.

Any DIY project requires some planning, and in the case of projects using Fusion Stone the planning and measuring stages are critical. You want to ensure you order the right amount of stone veneer for correct installation. Check out these videos to learn how to take proper measurements and install Fusion Stone products :

Do you have the equipment?

An extensive collection of power tools isn’t necessary to tackle a DIY project, but ensuring you have the equipment to complete the job is part of good planning. You don’t want to be in the middle of your project and find you’re missing a tool.
Also, equipment can impact your budget. If you don’t have the tools you need can you borrow them from a friend, or will you need to buy or rent them?

For a DIY project like installing Fusion Stone, all you’ll need are:

  • Tape Measure
  • Level
  • Rubber Head Hammer
  • Power Drill
  • Grinder
  • Safety Dlasses.

Is it risky or dangerous?

Some projects are simply not DIY jobs. Serious electrical or plumbing projects are not advisable for an eager DIY homeowner because of the safety elements – safety to the homeowner and safety to the house.

Comfort plays a large role as well ―if you don’t like heights then shingling your roof is probably not a good idea. Before you take on a project around your home you need to ensure it’s safe and you’re comfortable. Luckily, many DIY projects like installing Fusion Stone are not risky or dangerous, making them perfect projects for both a novice and experienced DIYer.
