Why You Should Cross Train Your Staff to Install Fusion Stone

June 24, 2021

There are many reasons why Fusion Stone has been successful for so long and has become the leading thin stone veneer product in Canada. These include such things as product quality, multiple style and colour selections, ease of installation and no mortar mess, and a vast dealer distribution network right across the country to list only a few.

Another feature that has great appeal, especially to contractors and renovators, is that Fusion Stone installation does not require the skills, certifications and costs associated with traditional masonry work. In other words, Fusion Stone can be beautifully installed by a general labourer rather than a professional mason. This can represent a significant cost saving while opening opportunities to both the contractor and their customer.

With only minimal training of a general labourer, a contractor can expand their service offering to include both interior and exterior masonry work, thereby making their business attractive to a broader customer base.

Considering our Fusion Stone products are fast, easy, and mortarless, it’s simply a great way to get a leg up on your competition. In quickly training your team to install Fusion Stone, you gain the ability to advertise yourself as a contractor who can install a striking, durable exterior stone system. Keep in mind that this comes without the traditional costs of bringing a stonemason onboard, meaning a great deal of value is generated in the way you’ll approach home renovations moving forward.

For a glance into what this process looks like, we’ve created installation guides specific to each Fusion Stone style. Click here for more installation information. Chances are that and your team already have the necessary tools and experience, so why not hit the ground running?

As another great point of reference, our Steps to Install Fusion Stone YouTube video lays out the basic training required to become a confident Fusion Stone installer. Here’s a summary to help you get the ball rolling:

The primary tools required are few and basic. They include:

  • Tape measure
  • Level
  • Tin snips
  • Drill
  • Saw with masonry blade

There are four easy steps to install Fusion Stone:

Step 1 – Prepare Your Surface

Fusion Stone is installed over a Plywood or OSB substrate. Ensure that the substrate has been covered in a code approved, breathable, weather resistant barrier. This step is not required on interior installations.

Step 2 – Installing the Starter Strip

Starter Strips are used at the base of all jobs as well as above any openings (windows and doors). Level and install the Starter Strips using the stainless-steel screws provided.

Step 3 – Installing Fusion Corners

Fusion Stone jobs begin with the corners, alternating between short and long sides.

Step 4 – Complete Installing Stone

Continue to lay the stone until your installation is complete by following our detailed instructions.
